I was nominated to do a Black and White Photograph challenge for 5 days. Stacey Lee Folks nominated me, and I am nominating Karen Appel to do the same. Post a picture in black and white for 5 days and nominate someone new each day…
Today I challenged myself to shoot some of our Halloween decorations outside, inspired by the holiday. I also challenged myself in the editing process to produce this image with higher saturation on some of the red and yellow tones, bringing out the details in the pumpkin. Shot with a Nikon D90, ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/350sec. exposure. Laurel Bree Photography

Day 2: Already black and white kitten challenge. Today I decided to experiment on a difficult to shoot subject, little Leaf. Not only is he wily, but he’s so dark (except for his belly) that you cannot see him well when using natural light. In lieu of carrying a light around an already busy subject, I waited for him to come close to the door on his favorite stoop, and opened it to let the light in. On top of that, I’m shooting with a Nikon D90 and a Nikkor-H 50mm lens (i.e. older technology than the camera itself – from a Nikon FE borrowed from Bruce M. Appel). Settings: f/2, ISO 800, 1/30sec. exposure. Edited in Photoshop.
